Put on your thinking caps!

More and more from North Korea.  First of all please refer to this article:  http://news.yahoo.com/un-sanctions-may-play-north-korean-propaganda-110025232.html  it outlines the stance that China has played in the past with sanctions against North Korea.

China is the number one supplier of oil and food to North Korea.  Also North Korea has had luxury items smuggled into the country through Chinese ports.  It is no surprise that North Korea relies on China and China relies on North Korea for trade.  China is able to have items made in North Korea even cheaper than in China.  This is a good deal for China, but goods made in China are already cheap, just how low do they want to go?  The only real export from North Korea is minerals because they have or consume everything else.  But when they have imports from China of components to make goods they do so for a pittance.  North Korea’s Gross National Product is supposedly less than 2 billion dollars.  Keep in mind that is a guesstimate because North Korea doesn’t report its GNP.  North Korea’s largest export throughout the world is counterfeit currency, drugs, and of course information.  When I say information I refer to missile and nuclear plans to whatever country will pay for them.

North Korea and Russia were allies at one time.  Russia supplied them with information as well as submarines and other weapons.  North Korea’s are not a stupid Nation.  They have managed to live with sanctions for decades and know how to reverse engineer (take things apart and create one just like it).  This has plagued Russia in the past when dealing with China.  North Korea also has the ability to get on the Internet and find out whatever they want.  Spies R Us!  They don’t have to have Internet connections in North Korea, just spies in other countries feeding information back to their regime and feed it they do.  As you well know you can find out most anything that you want to know on the Internet.  This has probably had a lot to do with their ability in recent years to advance their missile and nuclear capabilities.  Not to mention the fact that North Korea isn’t threatening to launch a nuclear missile at the United States.  It is threatening a preemptive strike against the United States.  There is a huge difference.  With their limited nuclear technology it is not out of the scope of reason that they have the ability to deliver a nuclear weapon.  Not in the conventional sense but a “dirty bomb” so to speak.  Damage from a “dirty bomb” is not in the course of actual destruction but radiation.  Also another factor that you have to take into account is they are saying an attack on the United States.  Every ship in the United States fleet is considered United States territory, and most wars have started at sea.

While Washington sits around so smug saying the United States is capable of shooting down any missile from North Korea, they are not taking into account that there are many, many, different ways to deliver a nuclear attack without use of a missile.  The purpose of this post is not to scare you in any way, but to enlighten you as to what North Korea is truly capable of.  We should not take these as idle threats, but should actually look at this rhetoric as a creditable threat.  We aren’t dealing with his daddy anymore.  Which dealt out threats on a daily basis.  We are dealing with a new regime that within the last year has conducted nuclear testing and launched a missile into space.  North Korea’s new leader has something to prove to the world and taking on the strongest Nation in the world would definitely set the tone and prove he is to be taken seriously.

The North Korea Situation

I have titled this the North Korea Situation because we have to deal with the problem at hand.  We keep putting sanctions on North Korea for their testing of nuclear material / bombs and rocket launches.  This is important because North Korea, when in good with the United States, was taking our sludge (the substance left over after converting oil to gasoline) and using it in their energy plants.  We also provided them with large amounts of food to feed their people.  For years they have had sanctions from nations all over the world, yet they continue to exist and they continue to function.  Showing that they really don’t need us.

The way they keep functioning is to launder monies worldwide by changing names and sending their spies to other countries.  They convert their counterfeit currency into cash and then they are able to buy what ever they need.  The North Koreans are very smart and have been doing this for decades now.  We, the United States, have not been able to stop this action.  Sure we may catch one or two in the process but that doesn’t account for the other 30 out there doing the same thing at the same time.  The fact is we cannot track and find them all.  The North Korean’s have been counterfeiting our money for years and it always works it’s way back into the states.

North Korea is now using the testing of nuclear material to hold the United States and the World over a barrel.  They will keep testing until they have what they want.  Which is full trade access and a lasting peace treaty with the United States and South Korea.  They have already told China (their biggest supporter in the region) that they have every intention to have 3 more test in the area and a missile launch.  They are holding this over our head to return to the 6 Nation Talks over their nuclear capabilities.  North Korea still hasn’t come up with a nuclear weapon yet that would be the equivalent to anything we currently hold.  But they do have the capability to use one of their rockets with nuclear material to create a “dirty bomb” ( a bomb with nuclear material attached that will spread radiation over a select area).  This bomb can be used in the ongoing war with South Korea which sits only a few miles away.  It could also be used to attack ships at sea that are close enough to their coast line.  That is what we as a Nation should be worried about.  So we are over the proverbial barrel.

North Korea says that it is testing the weapons but what they are actually doing is raising the hair on the back of the necks of every country in the world.  With nuclear testing and missile rocket launches they are trying to force the big 6 back to the negotiating table for talks.  The new leader of the country wants to make a deal.  The United States refuses to give in to talks as long as they continue to refuse to obey the UN Security Counsel.  Now I know this part is not going to be the popular idea but, we actually have them where we want them.  They want to resume talks, their way of showing it is not what we wanted but they are willing to resume talks.  Now is the time to sit them down at the table and work out a solution to our problems with North Korea.  Build a long lasting peace treaty that will not allow them to continue down the path they have chosen.  This is not the time to see who has the biggest dick in the room but the time to be the bigger man in the room.

Look at it this way, President Bush named North Korea as part of the axis of evil.  North Korea are allies with Iran and Venezuela.  Venezuela is allies with Cuba.  By putting the olive branch to North Korea we are able to show that we are willing to solve our problems diplomatically.  If Iran sees that we are willing to work with North Korea then perhaps they would be willing to also take the olive branch.  If Venezuela sees that Iran and North Korea are willing to accept the olive branch then perhaps they would be willing to accept it as well.  And, of course, if Cuba sees that Venezuela, North Korea, and Iran are willing to accept the olive branch then they may come around as well.  It is not good to have neighbors sit 60 miles away that hate us.  We need to come around and have good relations with Cuba especially since a good portion of Florida is Cuban.  The United States already knows that we have the biggest dick in the room.  Is it really necessary to always show it?  Or should we take this chance to work with these other countries toward peace in their regions?

Isn’t it time to stop the counterfeiting of our currency for good and start using our political strength to work toward peace?  It is not too late.  North Korea wants us to come to the table to work things out.  We should take this opportunity to work with North Korea and stabilize the region.  Besides, what are we going to do with all that sludge anyway?  As I have heard many times in my life, “Mark it up and sell it off”.  By working with North Korea we are also doing ourselves justice.  So perhaps it is time to swallow our pride and sit back down and work out a real pathway to peace.

I know this is not a popular opinion.  But I also know a good deal when I see one!
